The SIG (Special Interest Group) is excited to launch a brand-new podcast series dedicated to the world of thermal remote sensing—welcome to “Thermal Lens.”
“Thermal Lens” is a collaborative effort by the SIG and Rachana Mamidi, a space engineer and accomplished podcaster known for her work on podcasts like “Those Space People” and “The NextSpace Broadcast.” This series aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of topics relevant to the thermal remote sensing community. We’ll delve into the significance of past and upcoming missions and the insights gained from thermal imagery, explore diverse applications of thermal remote sensing, and much more.

“The Thermal Lens” is a unique series that serves as a valuable knowledge repository for anyone with an interest in this field. You can find all our episodes on our website, where we encourage comments and discussions.
Have a specific topic in mind that you’d like us to cover? Don’t hesitate to let us know through our discussion forum or drop us a line.
“Those Space People” is Rachana’s original podcast series featuring casual cosmic conversations with people working on all things space. These discussions span a wide array of subjects, including:
- Exploring space archeology with Dr Space Junk
- Insights into market development in the earth observation space
- Working at the world’s largest academic propulsion lab
- Reversing climate change using satellite imagery
- How satellites help monitor forest fires and gas flares
- Applying aerospace concepts to biomedicine, ship building and particle research
- Making a career in the space industry with non-tech background
Rachana, a Berlin-based space engineer and podcasting enthusiast since 2020, brings her knowledge and experience to “Those Space People,” where she and her guests share insights into the space industry’s challenges, aspirations for future development, and personal experiences within the field.
Currently serving as a software architect, Rachana has previously worked with the space agencies of India (ISRO) and Germany (DLR – German Aerospace Center)
